Bros / Les gars

Bros/ Les gars is a new multilingual, episodic play by Art Babayants. The play talks about identities: obvious and hidden, strong and weak, language-based and non-verbal, sexual and ethnic. Bros/Les gars is based on the playwright's own experiences as well as the stories he has collected from immigrants in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec. It is these stories, sometimes funny and violent, that push us to rethink the idea of hospitality, our perceptions of the Other and the fear that we always harbour when we meet someone who seems so different from us. These are the stories of immigration, loss, love, death, rejection, connection and acceptance.

The initial development of the first scenes of the play was suppoted by Access Copyright Foundation, La Troupe du jour (Saskatoon), SaskArts, and Toronto Art Council.
